Chet Huntley petitioned Montana’s governor in 1969 to grant his resort the name “Big Sky” which formerly was reserved to represent the entire state. In the early 1900s, Frank Crail and his family homesteaded 960 acres which are now Meadow Village. His hay and cattle ranch evolved over time into Huntley’s vision of a two village resort community. Big Sky encompasses three main geographic areas; the canyon, the meadow, and the mountain.
