Ray Atteberry warns the public of Craigslist rental scams
Posted on January 6, 2012ERA Landmark Broker, Ray Atteberry, met with KBZK News in Bozeman to get the word out about the ongoing home rental scams on Craigslist.org. Atteberry talks about the importance of not sending money for a deposit on a rental if the company is not located in the same area as the rental and knowing exactly to who you're sending money, especially over the Internet. A few key points to remember when dealing with rental properties on the Internet:
- Only deal with local rental companies and only in person
- Never wire funds, especially out of state
- Never give out financial information
- Never agree to cash money orders or cashier's checks to send money back
- Always be suspicious of questions asked that may change the course of action by violating Fair Housing Laws involving race, color, national origin, religion, sex, familial status, or handicap
Contact local authorities if you feel that you have been a victim of an online scam. View the clip and read more here: http://www.kbzk.com/news/bozeman-other-montana-cities-targeted-in-craigslist-rental-scam/
