New Campus in Belgrade to Support Youth Mental and Behavioral Health

A recently purchased campus, located in Belgrade, will soon serve local youths aged 11 to 18 who are experiencing behavioral health crises. This project is a collaborative effort between the Human Resource Development Council (HRDC) and Billings’ Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch. The new campus will assess patients’ needs, provide stabilization, and guide them to appropriate resources. The long-term goal includes offering educational services for extended stays and enhanced home support.

The need for youth mental health support is there and this campus is hoping to help address it. According to the HRDC website, “The need for such a facility is urgent, given the high rates of mental health challenges among youth in Montana, including alarming rates of suicide, depression, anxiety, and substance misuse. In the last 12 months over 14% of Gallatin County teens have attempted suicide and 21% say they are seriously considering suicide. Bozeman Health treats an average of 23 children and adolescents each month for behavioral health crises in the emergency room, while YBGR receives 150 referral calls monthly. This campus is envisioned as a place where children and adolescents from throughout the region can have their behavioral health needs met, enabling them to thrive as individuals, with their families, and in their community.” The campus will hopefully open in about 12-18 months.

The project requires additional community funding. Gallatin County has contributed $1.5 million, but further donations are needed to meet the $5 million target.
