New Childcare Facility for Big Sky

New Childcare Facility for Big Sky

Great news for Big Sky families! Two new childcare facilities are on the horizon, promising to expand access to much-needed early childhood education.

Just opened in 2024, the Gallatin River Child Care center, initially designed for employees of LMLC and YC, is expanding its services. Originally serving 30 children, the center will now be able to accommodate 48, and importantly, these expanded services will be available to the public!

Even more exciting, another childcare facility is planned for Big Sky's Town Center. This new center, located at 5 Spruce Cone Drive, will serve 24 children and will also be open to the public. LMLC and YC announced their commitment to affordable, quality childcare in a February 10th press release, emphasizing their dedication to supporting families in the area. They want to ensure that a lack of available and affordable childcare isn't a barrier for residents looking to expand their family or move to Big Sky. They aim to be part of the solution and are collaborating closely in partnership with current providers to ensure that there is early childhood education availability in Big Sky now and into the future.

The Big Sky Town Center location is currently navigating the permitting process. With unanimous support from the Big Sky Zoning Advisory Committee, the project is moving forward to a hearing with the Gallatin County Planning and Zoning Board. Renovations are planned, with construction targeted for completion in the fall of 2025. The Westfork Meadows Homeowners Association has also voiced their support for the project.

LMLC acknowledges that while these new facilities are a significant step forward, the childcare gap in Big Sky requires further action. To address this ongoing need, community stakeholders are partnering with the Greater Gallatin United Way to create the Big Sky Early Childhood Education Alliance. This alliance will focus on developing a comprehensive plan for improved facilities and securing sustainable funding for early childhood providers in the area. This collaborative approach promises a brighter future for Big Sky families!
